On my walk I saw this flag, and it stuck with me. The next day I went back to film it, because some things demand to be witnessed and this felt like one of them. A symbol for the grief I've been carrying. Days of it. Weeks. Years. I’m incredibly grateful to be the daughter of an immigrant, to inherit freedoms that my bloodline was never offered, opportunities grown from someone else's sacrifice But yet, I am still so ashamed and guilt-ridden of what this nation is doing to other countries and to itself. I’ve watched the horrors of the genocide of Gaza on my phone for the last two years. American deliberately funding Isnotreal to carry out their massacre of civilians. The bombing of Iran and Lebanon and the death of almost 200 girls at school also at the hands of Isnotreal. Oh how my heart aches to watch the news and see the travesties we are willingly inflicting onto millions of people. These are not accidents. These are choices. Willful, deliberate, and made in our name. I am DEEPLY DISGUSTED by the 🍊in our White House, and his abuse of power. Him and his cronies are deepening the wounds of division and polarization in our own borders as there is a rise in islamophobia, anti-semitism, and xenophobia. We are locking up immigrants and citizens behind gates because the elites want us to be scared of our neighbors. The labeling of Renee Good and Alex Pretti as domestic terrorists as a means to devalue the deaths of Americans who only wanted to help their neighbors. We are being stripped of our sense of community. Demoralizing and dehumanizing communities here and abroad. But I am my mother's daughter, and this country made me. I am beholden to this country, and because of it, I am able to hold both truths and realities in my heart: I can be grateful and still grieve.
