Grey hairs are OUT #thisis33 but maybe this is another pregnant symptom?? I wouldn’t be surprised because so many shocking changes happen to your body when you are 🤰🏽 Anyway, most days I just let them be and they don’t bother me but other days, I do like to cover them up!! People are always shocked that I use REGULAR COLORANCE for grey blending - which is @goldwellus’s acidic demi, instead of its alkaline demi sister: colorance “cover plus”. Like I get it - cover plus is marketed for “grey blending” and it does a great job for someone who wants more coverage - but what if I want to take it further? What if I want LESS coverage, and MORE BLEND? That’s when I reach for the acidic demi. It’s going to give me the SOFTEST regrowth line & I also love how there is ZERO shift in the natural base, which = no exposed underlying warmth (esp in the scenario where most of her hair is dark & can begin to look brassy if too much warmth is exposed), which also = a barely there demarcation in her darker areas. Of course this comes with a catch - you can’t just take a client from like a 5NN + 20vol base to a 6N acidic demi esp if their regrowth is like 70%+ grey. That’s way too big of a jump & it won’t blend. That’s where I absolutely love using an alkaline Demi (cover plus) - in that sort of scenario, I might take my client from 5NN + 20vol, to 5N + 10vol at the next visit… then to a 5NN/6NN alkaline Demi… then 6N acidic Demi… then 7N acidic demi…. then so on & so forth, highlighting every time you switch to a new base to blend it all in. If you’re tired of the constant root touch-ups—or you’re an all-natural girly who just wants a little extra sparkle—gray blending might be your perfect match. The transition from solid color to a soft gray blend is a process, but once you’re there, life (and maintenance) gets a whole lot easier.

What I mean here is….. most millennials like myself are now starting to see those pesky greys !!!! 😜 Historically once you started getting grey your options were limited. Permanent color to cover them, or highlights to start blending. Traditional permanent color will cover 100%, meaning very opaque coverage. Think a pair of sweatpants. You cannot see through them! Let’s talk about “grey blending”. You can do this with foils (blending out the highs and lows with foils and toning) or you can use a more SHEER permanent (sometimes semi permanent) hair color! Think like a pair of nylon leggings. You can see through them! What this means is you will not have complete coverage, rather the color will show through the natural highs and lows of your hair. Most often the greys will “tint” a color but remain lighter than your natural hair. 👏🏼 Sometimes a grey will not tint at all but it still all blends and softens your grey substantially!! 🎉 I LOVE this because it gives more dimension and keeps someone’s natural highs and lows. This also creates a softer grow out as the demarcation line isn’t as harsh. I say millennial in the caption, but obviously it can be done to anyone who likes this idea and is trying to figure out how to work with their new sparkly hairs ✨ In this case I used @redken 10 minute color gels with 20 volume ! I find they give a softer and more sheer coverage. It’s also a great way to transition clients out of the 100% permanent grey coverage root retouches when they are ready to work towards embracing their natural grey hair! GREY BLEND VS GREY COVERAGE What’s your preference? Mine really depends on what my clients goal is … if you want a cooler , more natural result i would ALWAYS opt for grey blend rather than coverage - My reasoning ⤵️ ➕Using Permanent Colour will always create warmth , and we will then need to lift past this root colour every time on future appointments when adding blonde - this then creating more warmth. ➕If you want cool blonde in your hair it means harsh processing over permanent colour - which compromises hair. ➕Also it means the grow out is worse so we may need to colour every 6 weeks ish. ➕It won’t suit everyone as some clients like to cover 100% off grey and if your not fussy about warmth in your hair then permanent colour can work! GREY BLEND ⤵️ if you are going to opt for grey blending with Shades Eq just remember you need to add NB into your mix - the percentage of grey add the same percentage of NB…. (30% grey - use 30% of NB ) If i am worried about the warmth that NB may throw off and want a cool colour - i add additional cool shades within my mix to counteract the warmth - BUT i need to NB to fill and blend out grey! So my formula for this client because we had warmth to cover - and also we wanted a cool result was :- Lowlight - 7NB/6N/7T/7NA - cooler as we had warm bands to cover Root melt - 7NB/6NA/7N - cool added in as we wanted a natural result Gloss - 10VG/10GI/9AA - wanted to ensure it didn’t grab too ash - the hair was porous so added fill with 9aa.
