Let them choose a topic for a writing assignment or select a way to present a project. This increases motivation and investment in their work. I love incorporating codes and ciphers into my curriculum for advanced middle school students! Here is a fun and engaging way to get students deciphering their first message and wanting more. This activity is "brains-on & devices-off". You can change the A1-Z26 intro phrase to something that your students will find intriguing and that is connected to your curriculum. Lean into the fun mystery along with them and cheer them on as they figure it out on scratch paper or whiteboards. 🕵 Once they are hooked they can invent their own class ciphers and write you and each other secret messages! #gifted #middleschool #ciphers #teachersofinstagram
