When I joined a @hurtigruten expedition cruise in October of 2023 and created this map for them, I was surprised by what inspired me most. The scenery was breathtaking, the wildlife astounding, and I had a blast every single day. But what inspired me most on the cruise was the expedition team. An expedition team is a crucial component of small boat expedition cruises. An expedition cruise focuses on adventure and nature, sustainability and natural science. The expedition team is responsible for not only guiding guests on various hikes, paddles, etc., but also educates the guests on their specialty topic. As I watched the expedition team on this cruise I thought, man, that’s something I would LOVE to do! Which is why this October I’m taking a marine guide training course with @marineguidetraining ! We’ll be learning all the necessary components for being an ocean-going guide, and getting PTGA certified at the end. I’m so stoked to learn all I can and become part of the guiding community! This feels like the perfect way to put my enthusiasm for adventure, my marine biology nerdiness, and my outdoor sport experience to perfect use. It’ll also generate some great inspiration for painting! I’m starting my drive up to Alert Bay, BC on the 2nd, and I’ll keep you all posted! Hoping for lots of wildlife! I love Tahoe. I’ve been based out of Tahoe for almost 20 years, my family, my community, and @alpenglowexpeditions offices are here and it holds such a special place in my heart. Every year Alpenglow hosts a “Winter Locals Day” to try and give back to the community that has given us so much in the best way that we know how; guiding. No cost, all stoke. We were psyched when this mega storm came through Tahoe the weekend before the event, and even more psyched when @palisadestahoe opened Granite Chief so we could access the National Geographic Bowl. Nat Geo is one of the coolest zones in Tahoe, and Alpenglow is fortunate enough to partner with Palisades so we can go guide back there. It’s all-time, and was the perfect venue for the local’s day. @alpenglowexpeditions_tahoe is so grateful for the community around us, and for everyone who put in to win a spot to get out skiing with us. Arcteryx Academy 2024, New Routing clinic sports action! This tree was very dead, but still hanging over the area where we wanted to build a new route or two during the 2024 Arc’teryx Academy “new routing clinic” And after pulling it down we built two decent new routes, sent one, and I think everyone feels a lot more ready to go out and build their own new routes. I love days like these, where you meet new people in the morning, and by the end of the day you’re a team having fun and working well together. New routing is often seen as this unapproachable and highly-structured activity. It’s not. All you do is go find a line that talks to you, and then have at it with respect for the local land use policies and climbing styles. I’ve taught “new routing” clinics at various events for years now, and find it incredibly rewarding to help people realize they CAN do new routes. And it’s great when a climber who took a clinic sends me a pic of a new route or ten they went out and did! That’s the spirit of the Academies to to me: A place to share knowledge and grow together. I’ve been doing the Squamish @arcteryxacademy events for over 15 years, and each one is a highlight of my season. The attendees, athletes, Arc’teryx organizers (you are machines!), and the magic of Squamish all combine into something bigger than the pieces. I feel very lucky to be part of that. A huge thanks to @splitterguiding for finding a suitable crag (top secret location), and everyone at the 2024 Arc’teryx Squamish Climb Academy, it was another incredible year of sharing the stoke and knowledge for climbing! #climbing #guiding #notanarborist #riskmanagement
