The patrol SUV of 29-year-old Tara-Marisa Guting — who passed away on Friday after being hit by two vehicles along SR509 — is now the center of an overflowing memorial, with flowers, a flag, and other items to honor her life. Tonight I’ve seen little children, fellow crew members who worked closely with Guting for over a year, as well as a nurse from the hospital where Guting died, all come and pay their respects. A note stuck to one of the side mirrors reads “You are wonderful. God Bless” from a local auto care shop. Today, Tacoma Police has put out photos of a vehicle of interest they are looking for — it’s believed to be the second vehicle that hit Guting, shortly after being hit by the first. Any tips can be sent to Tacoma PD, or Crime Stoppers. The official cause of death is still being determined, and the investigation remains ongoing. State Trooper Killed After Being Struck on SR 509 Near Port of Tacoma Road Tacoma , WA — A Washington State Patrol trooper was struck and killed Friday evening while responding to a crash on State Route 509 near Port of Tacoma Road. Trooper Tara Marysa Guting, 29, was standing outside her patrol vehicle on the southbound lanes of SR 509 when she was hit by a motorist, according to Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste. The incident occurred shortly before 8:00PM “Just a fantastic young lady, doing a heck of a job on behalf of the citizens,” Batiste said during the press conference early this morning. The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Batiste said there is no evidence the driver acted intentionally. Weather conditions, roadway factors, and visibility could have contributed to the crash. The Tacoma Police Department is leading the investigation and will determine the circumstances surrounding the accident. Guting was 1 of 30 Troopers who graduated the 119th Trooper Basic Training.
