I don’t usually make kick out flashings as the roofers in our area have them done already before the siding goes on. I installed a new roof on my own house so I made the kick out flashing. I didn’t have the proper tools so needle nosed pliers worked. A kick out flashing diverts the water away from the house into the gutter. You can side around the flashing in many different ways. If it’s siding like LP or Hardie, you can just make a saw cut where the flashing goes and slip it over top. With vinyl siding, I like to J-channel around it, making sure the bottom of the J-channel is open so any water drains directly into the flashing. This hides the cut edges of the vinyl siding as well. Though kick-out flashings never look great, it’s function will save your house from rot in that area.
