During this half-day workshop, we will investigate the wide variety of techniques that the flexible shaft drill can do from the comfort of your own home! The flex shaft can do so much more than just drill holes! We will learn how to add finish, texture, & more to your work. We’ll pay specific attention to finishing surfaces so that your work takes on a more professional look and feel. By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to create higher-quality work with style! Learning Alert 🚨 Last month, our Calligraphy Guild hosted a workshop by @artbysnpick. She taught us how to make a bound leather journal. I am new to this medium. She had everything organized and it was a big project for a half day workshop. The handout was fabulous and her instructions were clear. So, in the workshop, I completed my first journal. And then I went home and got the stuff to make another one. And it was so challenging. I had to do all the parts that she had prepped for us. I had to constantly re-read the instructions. I had to take it apart because the stitching wasn’t right. So I made my first crooked, delightfully wonky journal. And then, I decided to commit to making 15 total and seeing how my skills improved. I am still working through them, but they are definitely taking on my colorful, joyful vibe! I am super excited that they will hold a 100 day project! 🎉 And each one has different hand-painted pages added in with colorful wraps! ❣️ These little gems will be with me at the Austin Avenue Art Fair on November 2. #austinavenueartfair #createwithsdg #artjournal #creativemeditation #mindfulness #dailycreativity #createwithsdg

Last weekend, some of our staff participated in an intensive half-day ‘Scientific Illustration Workshop’ organised by prominent scientific illustrators from the National Museum of Natural History of the Philippines. Our staff had an enriching and fun time learning about the foundations of scientific illustration such as its history, importance, and relevance in today’s era of high-resolution photography. Using our museum specimens as models, our staff were invited to explore their own scientific illustration journeys, and were introduced to core techniques and skills, such as observational and blind-contour drawing, stippling, grid methods and colouring.
