My favorite way to trim half square triangles, hands down. (And I’ve tried a few!) Comment RULER and I’ll send you the link for the ruler (and rotating mat) I’m using here. This ruler comes in a variety of sizes, but each one works for multiple sizes as well. Which means you can buy a ruler a little bigger than you need, and then use it for scads of projects that require HST trimming! All you have to do is trim the first 2 sides, rotate your block, slide the ruler to the correct size, and trim the last 2 sides. BAM! Half Square Triangles ... 4-at-a-time quick tutorial with measurements Unfinished HSTs 👉 2.5" What you need: (2) different fabric squares size 4.5" (mine is Green solid and Gingham) NOTE: You'll need 4 squares, 2 from each fabric to make a Sawtooth star block Sawtooth Star (Unfinished size 8.5") What you need: (1) 4.5" square (mine is the green solid fabric in the center) (4) 2.5" squares (green solids for the corners) (8) 2.5" HSTs I press all my seams open. Making half square triangles 8 at-a-time is super easy following this method. Use (2) 10” squares. On the back of one, mark a line on both diagonals and also at the halfway point of the square. Place right side together with your other 10” square. Sew 1/4” from both sides of each of the diagonal lines. Cut on all marked lines. Hey presto! You have eight half square triangles ready for your next quilt! These finish at 4.5”. Have you tried this method? How did it work for you?
