Posterior Thigh: A Quick Breakdown 📝 The hamstrings aren't just one muscle—they are a powerhouse trio. Here’s what you’re seeing: Lateral Side: Biceps Femoris (Long & Short heads). Medial Side: Semitendinosus (on top) and Semimembranosus (underneath). The Neighbors: Observe the Adductor Magnus and Gracilis working in close proximity to assist in hip stability.

Anatomy 101: Hamstrings. Today we’re talking about one of our favorite muscles of the posterior chain. Here’s what you need to know about your hammies: 1. They flex the knee 2. They drive and extend the hip 3. They help stabilize your pelvis by creating posterior tilt Aka the hamstrings are pretty freaking important when it comes to walking, running, hinging, and day to day life. So… go on! Touch your sit bones, feel your hamstrings, and learn how to use them correctly so you can live a strong and aligned life. Which muscle should we teach you next? #moveu #hamstring #hamstringanatomy

💥𝐇𝐚𝐦𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐲💥 —— 👉Today’s video from @instituteofhumananatomy gives a beneath the skin view of the hamstring muscle group! 📚The hamstring muscles (biceps femoris, semimembranosus, and semitendinosus) run along the posterior thigh and act to flex (bend) the knee and extend the hip. 🔎Because the hamstrings serve as antagonists to the quadriceps, they are vitally important in terms of knee stability and overall lower extremity control. 🏋🏼♂️However, most people have a tendency to pick exercises that target the quads (also very important) and neglect the hamstrings. ✅My book and app both include a comprehensive hamstring strain rehab program that teaches you how to heal and strengthen the hamstrings after an injury. Most people underestimate this muscle. The gluteus maximus is one of the main engines of the hip. It helps drive the thigh backward during hip extension, helps with external rotation, and its upper fibers can assist abduction. That is why this muscle matters in sprinting, climbing, standing up, and forceful lower-body movement. Save this for revision... then watch Part 2 because the origin map is where most people get lost. #gluteusmaximus #hipextension #anatomylearning

Struggling to grow your hamstrings? You don’t need a “hamstring day”. You need two movements done properly. 1️⃣ RDL or SLDL 2️⃣ Any curl variation (seated, lying — pick what you like) Here’s why 👇 Your hamstrings cross two joints — the hip and the knee. That means they have two main jobs: • Extend the hip → (RDL / SLDL) • Flex the knee → (Leg curls) If you only hinge, you miss direct knee flexion work. If you only curl, you miss heavy lengthened loading. 📚 Research using EMG and MRI shows that: • Hip hinge patterns heavily load the hamstrings in a lengthened position (great for growth stimulus). • Knee flexion exercises target regions that hinges don’t fully stress. • Combining both produces more complete development than doing just one pattern. You don’t need 4 curl variations. You don’t need fancy machines. You need: ✔ One heavy hinge ✔ One solid curl ✔ Train close to failure ✔ Progress over time Simple wins. #hamstringworkout #hamstring #legs #hypertrophy #sciencebasedtraining

The hamstring isn’t a simple muscle you can “stretch until it’s better.” It’s complex, layered, and deeply connected to how you move. If it keeps flaring, it’s not because you didn’t stretch enough — it’s because something deeper needs attention. DM ‘HAMSTRING’ to get to the bottom of your ongoing issue. #trainsmart #hamstring

We are pleased to present a new lateral-view animation of the leg in motion. As the limb moves through extension and flexion, the active muscle groups light up. Now the challenge: can you name every muscle active in each phase? Most people miss at least one. #hamstrings #quadriceps #anatomy #biomechanics #functionalanatomy

This chart illustrates: Origins: Most hamstring muscles originate from the ischial tuberosity of the pelvis (except short head of biceps femoris) Kenhub Muscle names: • Biceps femoris (long head & short head) • Semitendinosus • Semimembranosus Kenhub Insertions: • Biceps femoris → head of fibula • Semitendinosus → medial tibia • Semimembranosus → medial tibial condyle numberanalytics.com

Did you guess it right? The Gluteus Medius is the primary stabilizer of your pelvis during walking and single-leg stance. If this muscle weakens, your entire lower kinetic chain compensates. In Part 2, we show what happens to your knee when this fails. Follow to catch the next breakdown. PINNED COMMENT (Growth) Save this for your anatomy revision. Part 2 drops next — and this is where knee collapse begins. 1#sante#anatomy#fitnesse

A look at the gluteal muscles during a kickback movement, now from the side view. The gluteus maximus leads the motion in hip extension, then fades to reveal the gluteus medius and deeper hip stabilizers at work.
