Have you ever seen anything so cool! As Lex said,”it’s the miracle of life!” A lot of you all thought this was gonna be really quick but it took three days for all eight babies to be born. The first egg started pipping (cracking through the shell) Friday March 21 and by Sunday night March 23 they were all out! 🕊️We did lose one of the babies who was born with a water sack in the abdomen. We were very sad as this was the first chick we ever lost during hatching but we were glad they did not suffer long. Thank you to everyone who was so invested and followed their hatch journey. Here’s a quick how to hatch your own eggs days 18-21. See reel part 1, where I went over days 1-18. This incubator is great, perfect for small homesteads & affordable from Amazon. Choose Fertile Eggs • Get fertilized eggs from your own flock (if you have a rooster) or a reputable breeder. • Avoid washing eggs—just brush off any dirt gently. 2. Set Up an Incubator • Keep the incubator at 99.5°F (37.5°C) with 45-55% humidity for chicken eggs. • Ensure good air circulation and a stable temperature. • Turn eggs 3-5 times daily (unless your incubator does this automatically). 3. Candling (Optional, but Helpful!) • After 7-10 days, use a flashlight to check for embryo development. • Remove any eggs that show no signs of growth. 4. Lockdown Phase (Day 18-21) • Stop turning the eggs on day 18 and increase humidity to 65-70%. • Keep the incubator closed—chicks need stable conditions to hatch. 5. Hatch Day (Day 21+) • Chicks will start “pipping” (cracking the shell). Be patient—hatching can take 24+ hours. • Resist the urge to help unless absolutely necessary. I let the chicks get warm and fluffy inside the incubator, and then I will move them to the chick brooder. 🐣 Brooder set up: I use a large plastic tank, puppy pads ( I’ll switch to hemp bedding in a few days), small dishes for chick crumble, a waterer, and a brooder heating plate (saved in my Amazon storefront) or a red heat lamp whatever you prefer. #chicks #spring #hatching #chickhatching #howto #homestead #homesteading #brooder #incubator

We did it again! This time with Chicken eggs!🥚🤩 I honestly didn't think we'll do more hatching so soon after the button quails but when we went to drop them off at the farm the lady asked the girls if they'd like chicken eggs to incubate and for some strange reason that I don't understand I couldn't say no! 😅 So here we are on round 3 of hatching birds! Bringing baby chicks home? 🐣✨ Make sure you’re following for more helpful chick care tips! One of the most important first steps is dipping each chick’s beak in water. Why? Because chicks don’t instinctively know how or where to drink. This quick action shows them the water source and teaches them how to sip. 💧 After shipping or hatching, they’re often stressed and dehydrated. A friend of mine gave me some eggs to hatch from her hens, out of 12 we had 8 healthy chicks. We also had one live baby that was deformed. I had no idea until I helped it out of its shell. The chick had most of the shell chipped away for its head but couldn't seem to zip the egg. Once I removed most of the shell the chick fell loose and I saw that it had no feet or wings but was very much alive. I went ahead and inspected the other two eggs that hadn't pipped yet, seeing no signs of life I opened the shell on both to find them deceased. One was in late stage while the other was deformed with no wings or feet. Has anyone had this happen and can give more insight into why they were deformed? This was a very wild hatch! Chick 🐥 hatching timeline⬇️⬇️⬇️ 🐔🐓A hen lays a fertilized egg after mating with a rooster. 🥚If the egg is kept warm, an embryo starts to develop. If it’s kept warm for 21 days, the egg will start to hatch. I noticed this egg wiggling at 5am. 🐣The first hole is called a pip. This chick pipped at 10am 🐣 The next part is called unzipping. They work their way around the shell to make a lid they can kick off. She started unzipping at 10pm. 🐥 She emerged from the shell completely at 12am. 🐥The chick stayed in the incubator to fluff up. She was fluffy and standing by the next morning ❤️ From first pip to hatch, she took 14 hours to come out.
