何度でも見たい光景ってありますよね。僕はこれなんです。写真を始めた頃、ここで撮られた写真に憧れて初めて海外の撮影に行きました。タイのチェンマイで毎年11月に開催されるイーペン祭り（ロイクラトン）は、現地語でコムローイと呼ばれるランタンを夜空に放ちます。LEDのランタンと違うのは、本当に炎で飛ばすので、ランタンの光がゆらゆらと明滅しながら飛んでいきます。その姿はまるで天に還っていく魂のようにも思えて、出会い別れたたくさんの人たちのことを思い出します。そんな瞬間のために、また今年も多くの人がタイに集まるんだろうなと思っています。 There are scenes you want to see again and again. For me, this is one of them. When I first started photography, I was so captivated by images taken here that I went abroad to shoot for the first time. In Chiang Mai, Thailand, every November the Yi Peng festival (Loi Krathong) fills the night sky with lanterns called khom loi. Unlike LED lanterns, these are lit with real flames, so their lights flicker and shimmer as they rise. Watching them feels like witnessing souls returning to the heavens, and it brings to mind all the people I’ve met and parted with.
