Sometimes a flat spot on a baby’s head isn’t just about head
151

Sometimes a flat spot on a baby’s head isn’t just about head shape—it starts with the neck. Torticollis causes tight neck muscles that make a baby favor one side, and over time that can lead to head shape changes. That’s why a helmet alone isn’t always the full answer. The helmet helps guide growth, but therapy treats the root cause. In this video, we explain what torticollis is, how it affects head shape, and why combining therapy with a cranial helmet gets better, longer-lasting results. Because fixing the cause beats just chasing the symptom. Every time. #Torticollis #CranialHelmet #Plagiocephaly #BabyTherapy #InfantDevelopment #BabyHealth #NewParents #PediatricCare #PhysicalTherapy #CranialRemolding #EarlyIntervention #ParentEducation #PediatricOrthotics #HealthyKids #LeimkuehlerOP

So many plagiocephaly cases, so many parents blamed for “not picking up their baby” or “not holding baby enough”. This is not true! The NUMBER ONE reason for flat heads in babies is actually torticollis or motion restriction. Think about it, if a baby can’t turn their head & neck fully, they’re likely sleeping on one side for hours at night causing constant pressure ➡️ misshapen head. Many of these babies are put into helmets without actually addressing the cause (the neck tension or motion restriction), which can lead to further issue as a person ages. . When we noticed flatness in our own kiddo’s head around 6 weeks old, we didn’t watch & wait, we didn’t monitor to see if it improved on its own. We were proactive. We started care immediately, did exercises, stretches & repositioning at home. Because we started early, we were able to avoid a helmet. Ultimately though, we are so glad we caught that neck tension early to help avoid further complications appearing later in life like headaches, persistent neck & shoulder pain, and asymmetry. . #chiropracticcare #plagiocephalyawareness #torticollis #newborn #neckpain . ✨ Progress without panic ✨ This little one started care at 2.5 months old with signs of plagiocephaly. After just 4 gentle sessions, we saw meaningful changes in head shape, body tension, and movement symmetry 🤍 🧠 Early intervention matters. 👶 The infant body is incredibly adaptable. 🪖 And a helmet isn’t always the first (or only) step. Every baby is different, and helmets can be helpful and appropriate in some cases. But when we assess early and support the whole body, conservative care can make a real impact. With strategic repositioning and a whole body approach, we were able to prevent further head flattening and address the root cause of head flattening. If you’re wondering whether now is the right time to get support—this is your sign ✨ 📩 DM me with questions ALL BABIES DESERVE A GREAT QUALITY CARE! 👋 I am Jagruti, a pediatric physical therapist specializing in infant development and babies with oral ties, torticollis and head shape issues. Your baby’s head is still growing and shaping every single day. Plagiocephaly isn’t about blame — it’s about biomechanics and timing. The earlier we address head and neck asymmetries, the easier it is to support balanced growth. You don’t have to “wait and see.” 🤍 #Torticollis #PediatricPT #InfantDevelopment #BabyMilestones #NewMomLife

Flat spot. Prefers one side. Sleeps the same way every time. It’s not just cosmetic. Plagiocephaly is often linked to neck tension and side preference (torticollis). When one side stays tighter, baby naturally rests there more. Over time, pressure builds. Sometimes addressing the tension early can support more balanced movement and reduce constant side preference. I use gentle, proprietary techniques to help release neck tension and support symmetry. 📍 Jacksonville, FL 🔗 Link in bio to book #plagiocephaly #flatheadbaby #torticollisbaby #babywellness #jacksonvillemoms

Sometimes babies are born with torticollis, a tightness in the neck that causes a side preference. If left unaddressed, this can lead to positional plagiocephaly—flattening of one side of the head due to pressure and gravity while the skull is still soft. The good news? Early support matters. Body-based therapies like craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, physical therapy, and other gentle approaches can help address the underlying restriction. The ideal time to intervene: around 3–4 months, when the skull is most moldable and treatments are most effective. Early awareness = better outcomes
