What he says: “I tried, it didn’t work out.” What he pretends: He made a genuine effort. 👉What it really means: If I do this badly enough, you’ll stop expecting anything from me. 3. What he says: “Just tell me what to do.” What he pretends: He’s being cooperative and considerate. 👉What it really means: I don’t want to waste my time thinking about this menial task. You are responsible for the planning. 4. What he says: “You’re better at this than me.” What he pretends: He’s appreciating you. 👉What it really means: This work feels beneath me and doesn’t benefit me. Since it doesn’t pay me, it is now permanently your job. 5. What he says: “I forgot.” What he pretends: It was an honest mistake. 👉What it really means: I know you’ll remember, remind me, or fix it. Forgetting has no consequences for me. 6. What he says: “Nobody asked you to do that.” What he pretends: You chose this voluntarily. 👉What it really means: I benefit from your effort, but I don’t want responsibility or accountability for it. (This erases your labour and shifts blame onto you.) 7. What he says: “You’re too particular.” What he pretends: Your standards are too high. 👉What it really means: Lower your expectations and accept poor effort. I don’t want to try harder. 8. What he says: “You don’t need to get so worked up.” What he pretends: You’re overreacting. 👉 What it really means: Your exhaustion inconveniences me. Please stay quiet so I don’t have to change. 9. What he says: “I’m tired after work.” What he pretends: He has no capacity left. 👉What it really means: My rest matters more than yours. Home responsibilities are not my problem. 10. What he says: “I’ll do it later.” What he pretends: He has intention. 👉 What it really means: If I delay long enough, you’ll eventually do it yourself.
