Yesterday was unforgettable 🥹. We began our day at Windsor Castle, celebrating as my amazing mother-in-law received her OBE from His Majesty the King. After 15 years of tirelessly raising funds for various charities, she truly deserves this honour. Watching her step forward toward HRH filled us with pride, and it was hard to hold back tears! Her can-do spirit is exactly what the world needs more of. I feel inspired every day and I am incredibly grateful to have been asked to join her a decade ago, on this philanthropic journey with @aroracharitablefoundation. Things I wish I knew before starting Honours 👇 1️⃣ Check which courses actually count toward your WAM. That way, you know where to prioritise your effort instead of wasting energy on subjects that don’t move the needle — especially when you’re already balancing work, study, and life. 2️⃣ Don’t take hard subjects just for the ego boost. Focus on boosting your GPA/WAM — that’s what gets you into Honours, not bragging rights. 3️⃣ Choose supervisors you already know from lectures. You’ll have a better sense of their expertise, teaching style, and whether you click with them before committing. 4️⃣ Pick electives that align with your research interests. It means you’re already passionate about the topic before dedicating a whole year to it. 5️⃣ Reach out to potential supervisors early. Email them, attend a lab meeting, and talk to their current students — not just about the research, but about how supportive they are. A brilliant academic isn’t always a supportive mentor, and you need someone who’ll actually give you feedback and time. 6️⃣ At the end of the day, a supportive supervisor > a “perfect” research topic.
