I think a lot of the reason I developed such severe mental health issues in my late teens/ early 20s was because I wouldn't talk for shit. I was a closed book when it came to the ongoings of life and smiled/laughed/ partied/ got black-out drunk instead. I learned in therapy over the last two years that the sense of independence I wore with pride was a coping mechanism, not a healthy choice, and beneath it was a massive fear of being seen and a way to avoid anyone getting in too close. I've tried so hard to start being more open with Mike and my closest friends, and not only has it helped me mentally, it's made our connections even stronger. & if you don't know HOW to reach out, on this particular day, I texted my friend asking her if she was free; when she said yes, I told her I was having a menty B & feeling sad and asked if she had the capacity to hear me out 🫶🏻 #humanness #mentalhealth #vulnerability #itsoktotalk

It was my father’s birthday yesterday. He would’ve been 79. I wanted to sing a song to honor him. His gifts. His challenges. His humanness. So picked “Running to Stand Still” by @u2. It sums him up pretty well. To all of us running to stand still, it’s okay. You’re in good company. Running next to you.

We have lost our moral compass. This is not a Left or a Right problem… or a Liberal/Conservative problem. THIS is about our humanness—our core beliefs. A HOME is a place that sees you… respects you… understands that your life matters. A place where you can fight fair—and when one wins, we all win. A HOME is a place that has your back and, at the very least, does not reduce you to “less than human.” “I always did believe in love. I felt that if you don’t believe in love, you may as well not believe in nothing.”

The intensity varies, but the waters of life run deep and are always moving on, the life raft, is to stay in flow as much as we can, be aware, and notice when we’re not, notice the resistance to what is.. and let go. Self awareness is key, but then we’ve got to be aware of what we’re meeting it, with.. Example - the hammer 🔨 A hammer is useful in that it can build a home. Same hammer can also be used to violently kill. Depends how we use it. Self awareness met with ‘acceptance’ (home, flow ) Yeah, I feel this and it’s undesirable, uncomfortable to even admit it, but it’s being human, and we’re here to experience the full spectrum of emotions & humanness in all its glory. Self awareness met with ‘shame’ (killing your spirit) Bashing ourselves for not being a perfect fictional super hero. And when we’re wobbly we do this to ourselves, just to add insult to injury! Grateful for this ‘penny drop’ awareness of the awareness. I could have made the recovery from this chapter a mountain… 🌿🫶🏽 #selflove #knowthyself #perspective #humanness #instadaily 🧿

Have you thought about it this way before? Do you agree? Inability to apologize (from a heartfelt place) points an arrow to an inability to find one’s own humanness and compassion for self. When defensiveness, debating, litigating, etc happens, it’s an attempt at not facing oneself. And when you don’t know how to face yourself with accountability/responsibility AND grace/compassion it’s going to be very hard to meet another person in their hurt. #mindfulmft
