Our first night in #LinkwashaCamp was a blessing. Linkwasha sits on the edge of the renowned Ngamo Plains of Hwange, Zimbabwe’s largest national park. Hwange serves up some of the best game viewing on Earth, year-round but especially rewarding during the dry season. CECIL THE LION WAS KILLED BY DENTIST WHO PAID $50,000 TO HUNT WORLD-FAMOUS ANIMAL. In a story that still triggers global fury, we look back at the moment the king of Hwange National Park, Cecil the Lion, was brutally taken down. Walter Palmer, a dentist from Minnesota, paid a staggering $50,000 for a trophy hunt that went horribly wrong. Cecil wasn’t just any lion; he was a 13-year-old local legend and a key part of an Oxford University research project. The "hunt" was far from fair. Reports revealed that Cecil was lured out of the safety of the protected park using bait, only to be shot with a bow and arrow. The wounded king suffered for 40 agonizing hours before he was finally tracked down and killed with a gun. When the photo of Palmer grinning over Cecil’s body hit the internet, the backlash was nuclear—shutting down his dental practice and sparking a worldwide debate on the ethics of trophy hunting. Years later, Cecil remains the face of wildlife conservation, and his story is a chilling reminder of what happens when money meets "sport."

Zimbabwe itinerary! ✅ Here’s how I ended up experiencing this amazing country on a self-driving road trip with @flora_umdiewelt Day 1-3 Victoria Falls (spend at least 3 days here, because there’s a lot to cover) Day 4-5 Hwange National Park (stay the night at Robins camp) Day 6-8 Gwango Heritage resort (nothing much to do here, but you can look at elephants all day long!) Day 9-10 Break the long road trip by staying at Bulawayo. I have a homestay recommendation later on in the mini vlogs Day 11 - start the morning in Matobo National Park and drive for the rest of the day towards Great Zimbabwe Hotel Day 12 - make a day trip to Great Zimbabwe ruins and relocate to Romelda Lake side retreat the same day or the next. Day 13 - opt for an early morning walking safari at Kyle recreational park Day 14 - you can go towards Mutare if time permits or drive the whole day towards Harare to fly back to your home country from there!
