**Save for Later** It doesn’t always have to be overnight, but several hours. This is a standard practice we use in our studio when a hydrangea is a bit sad and droopy. For practical purposes, when an entire batch completely collapses we would not use them for an event even if they revive like this! I’ve learned this the hard way…watching hydrangeas wilt on site the day of the event😬 Now I always make sure to take extra care of these sensitive blooms. Floral Design Tip: Hydrangea Hydration⬇️ Hydrangeas are one of the most particular flowers when it comes to hydration. Unlike roses or tulips, they won’t last long out of water. Luckily there’s a trick to getting wilty flower heads back in shape: 1. Remove most of the leaves 2. Submerge the flower head in water for at least 10-15 minutes, up to an hour 3. Give the stems a fresh cut at an angle (better yet, smash the bottom 1-2inches of stems with a hammer or rock to create more surface area for water to soak into) 4. What does the hydrangea like?

It’s late winter/early spring. You want to clean your yard up. What can you do to your hydrangea plants? If you cut them back, are you removing this year’s flowers? Short answer: you can always deadhead your plants. Deadheading, as shown in the video, is just removing the old bloom that was left on your plant from last year. You don’t take off any more of it than you need to remove the bloom. Compare that with pruning your hydrangea. Pruning takes significant amount of the stem off your hydrangea. During this time. You can prune your smooth and pinnacle eye dream: think, lime light, Annabelle, convincible, vanilla strawberry, Bobo, pinky winky, quick fire. Let me save you AND your hydrangeas 👀 Not all hydrangeas are created equal… and this is where so many people get tricked. Those big, colorful, fully blooming hydrangeas sitting inside the store? They’re florist hydrangeas. Don’t get fooled by the blooms. They’re grown in greenhouses and forced to bloom early, not for long-term success in your yard. How to spot them: • Already in full bloom early in the season • Usually sold inside or near the entrance • Smaller pots, softer stems • No clear outdoor planting info on the tag They’re stunning… but they’re not built to thrive outside long-term.
