💙💙{save|share} I made this video because a lot of parents out there think that once an IEP is put in place for their child, changes can’t be made. Not! If you see that there needs to be an adjustments made, let the school know. I know some parents who have gotten changes done such as longer test taking times, aids, eliminating homework, the list goes on. You won’t know unless you make the request. ➡️ Do you know of any other helpful tips for IEPs? Please share. #autism #asd #iep #iepmeeting #specialneeds #parenting #knowyourrights

🚨 IEP RED FLAGS Every Parent Should Know 🚨 If you’re reviewing your child’s IEP and see goals like “will try harder” or “will participate more,” stop right there. That’s not measurable, and that’s a problem. Here are some common red flags to watch for: ❌ Goals that can’t be measured ❌ Goals that don’t match your child’s actual needs ❌ Same goals year after year with no real progress ❌ No explanation of how the goal will be taught or tracked ❌ Language so vague or technical that you can’t even tell what your child is supposed to be learning 💡If a goal isn’t clear, customized, and trackable, it’s not setting your child up for success. You have the right to ask questions and request changes. 💬 Need help reviewing your child’s IEP? IEP meetings can feel SCARY... 😱 This is why you don't want to WALK in your child's IEP like it's just another meeting. Let's be honest... 👇 as a school psychologist and teacher, I was trained WHAT an IEP was and given tons of paperwork before every meeting. Our team chatted, shared data, and often previewed MANY things before families even walked in the door. It's true. This was my life EVERY day as a school psych for 20 years. This is why, you MUST do things differently so you don't feel underprepared and don't get caught off guard for your child's next IEP. As a mom, I felt sick to my stomach at IEPs and lost my cool when I was told I needed to "do a better job" helping my child "focus". Know this: You have OPTIONS and have rights to feel heard at the table and make meetings BETTER. I created DIY templates to show parents WHAT to ask for and HOW to communicate without stress or drama. For just $5, get the tools you need to advocate like a pro. Specially Designed Instruction is not just a buzzword. It’s what helps your child actually understand the content, not just sit in the room with it. AND it’s the primary reason your child has an IEP. If your child is struggling, despite all the paperwork and meetings don’t be afraid to ask: “How is the curriculum being adapted for MY child?” Because if nobody’s changing how they’re being taught, they’re just surviving, not succeeding. You have every right to know how your child is being supported. Ask. Push. Demand clarity. Compliance doesn’t equal progress. IEP ≠ success unless it’s implemented with intention. Accommodations alone aren’t enough your child deserves specially designed instruction that meets them where they are. Parents: Ask the hard questions. Advocate smarter. Your child’s future is worth it. #specialed #iep #learningdisabilities

IEP meetings and initial evaluations can feel overwhelming—there’s a lot of information, a lot of emotion, and often not a lot of time to process it all. That’s why I support families through the process. As a semi-retired special education teacher and a parent who has been through it, I help parents understand what the information means, what to look for, and what questions to ask—so they can feel confident and prepared walking into meetings. My role isn’t to be part of the IEP team, but to help parents navigate the process and make sure the plan truly supports their child. The more parents understand, the more empowered they are to participate and advocate. And it also helps me align my tutoring to best support their child’s needs. You don’t have to figure this out alone. 🤍
