3 night getaway thx for wifey pushing me out of my Xmas and NY coziness. So glad we came to Big Bear. First time and yes it might not be Switzerland but it sure is a great alternative only 2hrs drive from LA. Considering the ocean is a stones throw away too. Will be back soon. Most importantly the boys LOVED the new snow that just fell the night before.

Get this close to a grizzly! A must-do activity when visiting the Kootenay Rockies is a visit with Boo the grizzly at Kicking Horse Grizzly Bear Refuge! @khgrizzlybearrefuge is the largest enclosed and protected mountainside habitat in North America. It’s located right at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. After lift-assisted mountain biking or hiking, you can visit Boo at his home. Boo was orphaned at 4 months old in 2002. Grizzly cubs have a 50% survival rate, and without their mother (Boo’s was illegally shot roadside), it drops to 5%. Back then, there weren’t a lot of options to rehabilitate bears back into the wild, which is why Boo lives in this habitat. Thanks to Boo and the research he’s provided, 36 orphaned bear cubs have since been released back into the wild. Boo is a bit of a character, and on the Ranger Assist Program, you can get a behind-the-scenes perspective to learn more about this adorable grizzly, his habits and how he’s leading the charge in bear behaviour. #grizzlybear #goldenrules #goldenbc #instabear #thishorserules #explorebc
