Last week, Fort Worth ISD approved teacher pay raises, and my comments and DMs immediately filled up with people saying, “Yeah, but what about the cuts?” Tonight, that’s the next big vote. FWISD is under a state takeover, which means these decisions are being made by a state-appointed board of managers with a state-appointed superintendent leading the district. On the table tonight: staff cuts across the district and the possible closure of International Newcomer Academy, a campus serving many students who are new to the country and still learning English. The district says it’s dealing with fewer students, budget pressure, and a June deadline. Families and staff say they still want details on how many jobs, which campuses, and what happens to the students who need extra support?
