Jeff Healey performing “Angel Eyes” live in Munich, 1989. Healey lost his sight at the age of one due to a rare cancer of the eyes. At the age of three he got his first guitar and began playing. He eventually found it more comfortable to hold the guitar in his lap rather than the traditional way, this became an iconic characteristic of his playing. Holding the guitar in his lap allowed him to have much more powerful bends, vibrato, and freed up his thumb to fret more notes. He often threw in some screaming bends that seemed to come out of nowhere, keeping listeners on the edge of their seat. Not only was Healey an amazing guitar player, he also had amazing vocals. His voice was deep, rich, and soulful, allowing him to express his lyrics in a very emotional way. When he needed to he could add a little more grittiness to his voice, which took his expression of emotion to the next level.
