Today, Jesus taught the Two Greatest Commandments. #HolyWeek During His life on earth, Jesus Christ taught the importance of loving God and loving others. “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” —Matthew 22:37–39 Jesus taught that the love of God and of our neighbor is the foundation of His gospel. Near the end of His ministry, He expanded on this teaching when He taught: “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you. … By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:34–35). The Ten Commandments were never meant to control you—they were meant to protect you. A lot of people see God’s commands as rules to follow in order to earn His love… but that’s not the story the Bible tells. Before God ever gave the commandments, He rescued the Israelites. He brought them out of slavery first… then showed them how to live in freedom. That changes everything. The law isn’t about earning God’s favor—it’s about revealing His heart. It shows us what’s right, what’s good, and what leads to life. But it also does something deeper… It acts like a mirror. It shows us that no matter how hard we try, we can’t meet God’s perfect standard on our own. And that’s the point. Because the story doesn’t end with the law… it leads us to Jesus. Jesus didn’t come to destroy the law—He fulfilled it perfectly. Where we fall short, He steps in. Where we fail, He offers grace. This has never been about fear, pressure, or trying to be “good enough.” It’s always been about relationship, rescue, and redemption. God isn’t trying to control your life—He’s trying to lead you into true freedom.
