Tras el gran fuego de 1405, la ciudad sustituyó la madera por arenisca, dando lugar al característico tono uniforme que hoy define su casco histórico. 👉🏼 Fundada en 1191 por el duque Bertoldo V de Zähringen sobre un meandro del río Aar, su ubicación no fue estética, sino defensiva: el río protegía naturalmente tres de sus lados. The Old City of Bern (Altstadt), the capital of Switzerland, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site inscribed in 1983 due to its exceptionally well-preserved medieval urban structure, established in the 12th century. Albert Einstein left Germany, the country of his birth, in 1894 and moved to Switzerland in 1895. He studied, worked and taught there, except for a year's stay in Prague, until1914. That year he returned to Germany, where he lived until his emigration to the United States in 1933.
