I was cleaning up the studio and threw together every bit of scrap clay to consolidate my mess better. The Process - 💪🏼 Wedged the clays separately and then a little to compress together 💪🏼threw it on the wheel 💪🏼bisque fired 💪🏼dried and trimmed 💪🏼glazed (inside only) 💪🏼 glazed fired 💪🏼 lightly sanded so they don’t scratch surfaces but feel amazing to hold. And am pretty happy with the finally results 👊🏼 These will be going onto the Etsy store this weekend unless bagged by DM. $49 each. The making of the olive and kumquat cup! I only checked what an olive tree looked like after I had finished the first branch so had to go through and quickly fix the ends of all the leaves so they were round not sharp 😅. The clay is Blackwattle speckled buff which fires a nice light tan colour. The glazes are @amacobrent, iron lustre for the olive leaves with Blue midnight and Smokey Merlot olives. The kumquat leaves are temoku with deep olive speckle over the top, and the kumquats are sienna speckle and marigold. How to make a little cup… Slowly compressing the clay to get the base and cup body to join is the most important step (I had to speed it up in the reel because it was so slow! ) We sometimes forget when slab building that we can alter the shape of the clay by compressing and stretching it - throwers do this all the time on the wheel - so don’t forget to do it when handbuilding too - it gives your objects more life and energy. #cup #process #stepbystep #slabbuilding #compressing

Morning everyone 🤗 I have had a lot of requests about how I make my frilly's. Here I have used 5 different types of clays and my love for lacework I have collected from around the world is how it started. In Venice there is the most colourful place named The Island of Burano. Here the houses match the Gondolas & it's truly a magical place to visit. Only a short 15min boat trip from Venice. I love handmade and have had a love affair with lace for as long as I can remember. I nannied in Oxford in the UK when I was 21 & the Mother of the children gave me this most beautiful lace handkerchief I still have to this day. I collected such beautiful lace work from the Island of Burano, fascinating seeing the time & detail that goes into them. I have the most beautiful lace from Paris & have countless doilies fr around the world. You can also you stamps as another option. It's truly your imagination. I have made @chykak large frillies for her book launch a few years back and she has them featured on the cover of her 2nd book and they are now displayed in her gorgeous kitchen & often used when Chyka entertains.
