Jackie Kennedy’s Favorite Van Cleef & Arpels Earrings and Who She Left Them To After Her Death When Jacqueline and John Kennedy welcomed their daughter Caroline in 1957, John wanted to give his wife something special — a pair of luxurious diamond earrings from Van Cleef & Arpels. Later, those earrings became one of the most recognizable parts of Jackie’s image. People often called them “waterfalls of light.” Their delicate gold base was completely covered in diamonds arranged in an intricate pattern. Every time Jackie moved, the earrings seemed to sparkle as if they were made not of gold and stones, but of pure light. Today, a similar pair of Van Cleef & Arpels earrings of this level could be worth anywhere from $500,000 to $1 million, depending on the size of the diamonds, their origin, and the historical value. If Jackie’s actual pair ever appeared at auction, it could sell for even more. Jackie wore them during the most important moments of her life. In January 1961, she appeared in them at the inaugural ball after John Kennedy’s presidential victory. That night, the world finally saw her not simply as the president’s wife, but as a true style icon. Later, she wore them at White House receptions, diplomatic meetings, and international visits. Wearing those earrings, Jackie hosted Queen Elizabeth II, met world leaders, and appeared in some of the most famous photographs of her era.
