Have you ever tried dressing according to the Kibbe body typing system? I thought it would be fun to explore these concepts, as getting a grasp on different styling techniques and methods can help you to gain fresh perspective on why you do - or equally don’t - like to wear certain things. Kibbe’s approach seeks to emphasise one’s natural appearance - so for example if you have softer features, it proposes that those softer less structured silhouettes will suit you better, or if you are angular, sharp tailored garments will feel more harmonious. I’m most likely a dramatic, an archetype characterised by long and lean lines so my outfits should reflect this idea of vertical length, and incorporate sharper silhouettes to harmonise with my more angular features. What I found most interesting about this exercise was that many of the techniques proposed for dramatics, I was naturally doing. Monochromatic/tonal looks, minimal prints, longer tailored trousers and sharply cut skirts. It also provided me with some context as to why softer, more bohemian style pieces that I’m drawn to often feel a little “off” on me (though I think to some degree you can use friction to create a look that *does* work for you). And I think if you take the time to play in your wardrobe, you’re naturally going to find the things that you do and don’t love to wear. The clothing that YOU feel *best* in… because at the end of the day we all want to look good in the clothes we choose to wear (though it does come with some trial and error). Let's style a Dramatic Classic inspired look featuring jewelry from @peachmindofficial This isn't a 100% Dramatic Classic look as there is an element of Natural since my body (and hair) are overall Natural and I need clothing with flow, but let's look at how the details take this look into Dramatic Classic territory. To really hit those Dramatic notes, we have a strong, clean vertical line with angular details in the snip toe boots, V neck, collar, and sharp edged jewelry. We also add some angularity with the belt buckle, and I've added animal print / skin which works well for Dramatic. To hit that Classic note, the silouette is overall balanced with width at the pant hem to balance the width in the more relaxed blouse. Accessories and jewelry are kept minimal in scale and adornment. This creates a clean, powerful look that comes across as direct, sleek, and balanced.
