In just the first three weeks of use, I was seeing several scratches on our brand new range that costs more than my first car. I was so mad! Normal day-to-day use and some way, somehow.. the stainless steel was getting scratched. So I searched Amazon for some sort of surface protectant and found this random silicone mat that works PERFECT. The big mistake was not purchasing this sooner! Now I can use my range how a range should be. 😅 plus, it’s not too much of an eye sore! Honest review of all our appliance picks coming up. The one overrated item I’d probably skip next time? That big, beautiful, “look at me” dual oven range. You know the one… 6–8 burners, double ovens, feels like you should be hosting a cooking show every night just to justify it. Meanwhile, over here… I’m making eggs, boiling pasta, and flipping grilled cheese like it’s my full-time job. Don’t get me wrong, it’s gorgeous. It looks like a dream. But for the price of that one range, I could’ve done two wall ovens… or upgraded other finishes I had to scale back on (still thinking about that, not gonna lie). And here’s the honest part, we use the oven all the time… but I didn’t need that oven to do it. A simple cooktop + wall oven setup would’ve given me the same function, a clean look, and a little extra room in the budget for the things that actually make the space feel like me. Just because it’s popular doesn’t mean it’s practical for your life. And when it comes to designing your kitchen, I always recommend hiring a kitchen designer. They help you think through how you actually use your space, so you’re not making big, expensive decisions based on a version of life that doesn’t exist. Design your kitchen for how you really live… not for your imaginary cooking show version of yourself. If only I had a dime for every time I got this comment….😝. People always think that my range is in the corner of our kitchen!! To be fair, it’s definitely the shooting angle that can make it look that way, but it isn’t on the corner and is not a terrible layout! It’s actually right behind our fridge which is AMAZING for food prep. That said, this is definitely a non traditional kitchen setup…before we renovated, the island was actually turned in the other direction so the stove was more like it was behind the island and I HATED it. Whenever we entertained, it was so hard to prep food because everyone naturally congregated by the island….right next to the stove. This setup is WAY better for entertaining! What do you think? Don’t get me wrong in frame kitchens are beautiful but they can be up to 30% more expensive. If you get your other finishes and styling right I think you can get away with not spending the extra pennies.
