By this time, the animal should have 30 permanent teeth instead of 26 milk teeth. How can you tell if your kitten is teething? Here are the main signs: - Lost teeth. - Increased salivation. - The need to chew and gnaw. - Decreased appetite. - Light bleeding from the gums. - Bad breath. - Lethargy and decreased activity. ☝During the tooth eruption period, it is more important than ever to provide your kitten with not just food, but a balanced diet. A high-quality diet supports the immune system, reduces gum inflammation, and provides the body with everything it needs to form strong permanent teeth. 🔹 If your kitten is on dry food, do not soak the kibbles. Their firm but not overly hard texture helps to massage the itchy gums and promotes the natural loosening of the milk teeth 🔹 If your kitten is eating wet food or natural food, make sure to offer them something to chew on that is hard. This could be special dry treats or chondroprotectors for kittens. They not only help with itching but also serve as a preventive measure against tartar buildup in the future by acting as a mechanical cleaning agent. Periodically, when your kitten is calm, gently check their mouth. Make sure the process is progressing well. ♨️ If you see "double teeth", where a permanent tooth has erupted but the baby tooth has not fallen out, it may be a cause for concern and should be checked by a vet. This is abnormal. If there is severe redness, sores, or pus on the gums, consult a veterinarian immediately.

February is Pet Dental Health Month, which makes it the perfect time to check in on your cat’s oral health. If your cat is over 3, there’s at least a 50% chance they have dental disease. And they may still be eating normally. Feline dental disease (periodontal disease) affects 50–90% of cats over age three. Making it one of the most common medical conditions in cats. The problem? Cats hide pain. They can have inflamed gums, infection, or even painful tooth resorption and still act completely “fine.” Bad breath is not normal in cats. It’s a symptom. Other signs of dental disease in cats can include: Drooling Red or swollen gums Chewing on one side Subtle behavior changes Pawing at the mouth Dental disease isn’t cosmetic. Chronic oral inflammation can allow bacteria to enter the bloodstream and may impact organs like the kidneys and heart over time.
