Well, school life has official ended. But i bet this was the bestt time we ever experienced!!. Its been 5 years with you all ( maybe more or less for others ). From the first group picture we took till the last day we spent together, it was all the same. Even though we didn't spend the best years of school life together ( covid 🙄), we made hell lot of memories that will stay in us for ages. We laughed, we cried, played, bunked classes, made secrets, irritated teachers, took photos (we studied also ), the list doesn't end :)) I guess our group was a different one, with many people in it who always sticked together. That made us unique ( : But now we are parting our ways, joining different colleges and stuff, but bro, will this friendship we had break so easily???!!. Well i guess NO. True story - in the 9th and 10th grade, I changed schools from Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) to JSS Mysore. I'm calling this out because this school was built on a religious, gender separation system. If you're from KV, you know the kind of beautiful bonds students form, irrespective of them being boys or girls. We are taught to coexist, help each other, make friends. There was no division. But the new school did not approve of this. And the lesson was so deeply ingrained within the students too, especially the girls. None of them liked the fact that I made friends with the boys - genuine friendships where we spoke to each other, sat together to complete homework, made jokes in class, and maybe bunked a couple of classes (by myself mind you, not even getting others in trouble!) - typical high school moments. And, I was ostracized for it. I remember this one time a couple of teachers told the other girls in my class - don't talk to her, she's a bad influence talking to boys. The Hindi teacher specifically picked on me, openly judging me - she talks too much with boys. She doesn't follow the rules - which were basically don't talk, don't laugh, don't have fun, don't make friends with other class or grade students, basically don't be a child in school. Be a zombie we push out with good grades. The truth is, the freedom I lived with, was something they never saw within themselves. And that's the tragedy of patriarchal systems. I was seen as a threat. I could see the judgement and resentment in those teachers' eyes. I went against every form of control they were conditioned to imprint, not just within themselves but even within their students! But we all know how it ends - I was bullied, ostracized, isolated. Yes it took a toll on me. But it also made me very deeply protective of those who experience the same thing. It strengthened my sense of justice even more! And today, my voice is steadier than ever when I speak up, when I act, and my values do not shake. Not then, not now, not ever. So, go be a menace. Go disrupt old systems based on exploitation and control. Build better ones 🔥 [High school bullies, patriarchal schools, teacher led isolation]
