A transformation I almost didn’t share… Back when I was 8 months pregnant, I had five training horses in full work. Middle of summer. Belly out to here. And honestly? I felt pretty bad a** 🔥 Three weeks into a 6-week program, one horse suddenly regressed hard. Nothing had changed. Feed, environment, workload, routine—yet everything felt like it fell apart overnight. I questioned everything. Did I miss something? Push too much? Fail him? Further testing gave us the answer: hoof issues and a laminitis flare-up. His owner stayed fully involved and trusted me to keep going. Supporting him in the best way I knew how. Those last three weeks didn’t look like a “perfect before & after.” They looked like listening. Adjusting. Slowing down. Learning. And sure enough he made huge strides in his movement. I never even got my planned after photos/videos… because the day I was supposed to? I ended up in the hospital having a baby. (Yep. Real life 😅) For months, I let the imperfections stop me from sharing this story. But now I see it clearly. This horse taught me lessons that have made me a better trainer, better problem-solver, and better advocate for the horses in front of me today. Hufrehe ist etwas was keiner (s)einem Pferd wünscht! Pferde und Pony’s mit Hufrehe leiden an stark entzündetem Gewebe zwischen der Hufwand und dem Hufbein, welches man sich wie eine Lamellenschicht vorstellen kann. Ist diese Lamellenschicht entzündet wird die Blutzufuhr zum Huf unterbrochen und in vielen Fällen lösen sich die Lamellen (in der Fachwelt Laminae oder Lederhautblättchen genannt) von der Hufwand ab und es kann zur Absenkung von Hufbein und Hufsohle kommen. Der Beschlag spielt bei der Genesung eine große Rolle. Der Pferdehuf ist ein komplexer Aufhängeapparat, der das Gewicht des Pferdes trägt. Verlagert das Pferd sein Gewicht (Rehe-typisch) hat dies oft gravierende Auswirkungen auf den Huf und die Strukturen und Knochen. Um das Pferd und den Huf zu entlasten, korrigiert der Schmied oft die Position und das abrollen des Pferdehufes was oft eine radikale Kürzung der Zehe beinhaltet. In Absprache mit einem Tierarzt (Röntgenbilder usw.) muss die Zehe hierfür oft entfernt werden, um den Druck auf den Fuß zu verringern. Hat sich die Hufwand abgelöst oder ist bereits stark angegriffen wird die empfindliche ‚Lamellenschicht‘ des Pferdehufs freigelegt, was wiederum zu Hohler Wand durch das eindringen von Bakterien führen kann. Es ist wichtig die freigelegten Bereiche stets sauber zu halten um zusätzliche Infektionen zu vermeiden. Strahlfoili hilft dabei ein Schutzschild über die freiliegenden Lamellen zu legen und wirkt, dank seiner Inhaltsstoffe natürlich, anti-bakteriell. Wichtig ist, sollte dein Pferd oder Pony Anzeichen von Hufrehe zeigen, solltest du dich umgehend mit deinem Tierarzt in Verbindung setzen, denn in schweren Fällen kann Hufrehe leider fatale Folgen haben. It’s sad to say that we’re experienced with owning a laminitic equine who did not make it. One day, Mocha had developed a limp. After calling out a vet, we discovered that she was laminitic and her coffin bones were already at 13 degree angles. This was shocking to us, due to the fact that her limp was very minimal. We were only able to keep her comfortable, for a few months, after discovering that she was laminitic. With Mirage, we thankfully discovered this very quickly. We are very hopeful that, with proper management, she will live a very “normal” life. We are very grateful for our amazing team of veterinarians. She is actually walking great today. Currently on stall rest with heavy bedding. Praying that we continue to keep her on the right path and don’t go down this road again. #donkey #minidonkey #laminitis
