Really gotta love the north. This is the Swedish Lapland, where the sun never set (summertime) the indigenous people with the reindeers are called Samipeople or Laplanders. These houses are typical for them, called ”kåta” in Swedish, lapp cot. This is s bit similar to the native indian people in America, but this is north Europe. So fascinated about the way these people live and lived. I hope they can continue living with their reindeerherds as they always have. Nikola won two 🥇 prizes out of five categories @islandschoolvoyagers. Papa grew the cotton, Nikola spent hours deseeding it, and I sewed the beard and eyebrows. In solidarity, I wore the clothing of my motherland’s original people’s. The Sámi are nomadic Laplanders that follow the reindeer herds. Within five minutes of getting out of the car, a native Sàmi recognized me and wanted a photo. He wears the cap of the amanita muscaria mushroom , flygsvampa, or flying mushroom. The Sámi shamans would drink the reindeer’s urine as it filtered out the toxins to engage in vision quests. Santa Claus is the Christian hijack of this native tradition. Hence the flying reindeer that pull the shaman’s vehicle of a sleigh. ARE YOU GOING? 🎄 We’re not going to Lapland UK this year, however much I want to. Because I just couldn’t find a way to make it work. The tickets for Lapland are out of reach for us and I want to normalise talking about the stuff we can’t afford - because social media makes it look like everyone is doing all the things and buying all the things, when they’re really not. So I want you to know that it’s totally normal if you can’t afford this family Christmas experience that *everyone* seems to be doing - especially now Lapland in Manchester has opened.
