Most snakes don’t get a second chance like this. This 6 m / 18 ft+ Reticulated Python was found trying to enter a house in Northern Sumatra. Unsurprisingly, the homeowner wanted the snake removed and relocated. As incredible as it is to know that animals like this still exist, it’s confronting to see the amount of stress a wild animal has to endure simply for coming too close to people. Through conflict with humans, animals of this size are unfortunately becoming increasingly rare. Thankfully, the incredibly dedicated team from @sumatraecoproject stepped in and saved this prehistoric giant from the machete. Outback rescue caught on camera. A large python was found tightly tangled in barbed wire fencing in dry rural bushland. The snake thrashed and hissed defensively as someone carefully worked to cut the sharp metal strands away. One wrong move could have made it worse. Slow. Steady. Controlled. Russell's Viper upclose and personal. This #snake does not sit well on snake hooks and is never a good idea to grab by hand. The most unpredictable snakes we have around in #south #asia and one, who is responsible for maximum human deaths mostly because we think this is A #python and catch it with #bare hands. . . Four boys were helping me with the video and the snake decided to give them a run. A funny moment during this rescue was seeing all the boys jump up on chairs. But I applaud them as they didn't do anything untoward in their panic. They gave me space and stayed calm to the best of their abilities during the panic stricken moment and yet managed to film the entire rescue. Thank you guys.

Reticulated python rescue Got a call again from my dear friend Chat. Reticulated pythons are the longest snakes on earth. This one was just a subadult, around 2 meters long. It’s not uncommon for wildlife to get caught in netting like this. Many snakes aren’t as lucky and end up badly injured or dying after being caught in it. Thankfully, this individual only had to sit through the night. Minor injuries along the first third of the body, no open wounds. Freedom is our birthright. 🕊️ Every year we return to Indonesia, there has been a reticulated python that we've been called to relocate. As human settlement and industry further encroach on their habitat, many of these larger snakes are caught to be sold or killed. The first time I came to Sumatra, I rescued a reticulated python from a local villager who had beat it on the head. It was close to dying, but was ultimately rehabilitated and was released. Having the opportunity to help protect these giant snakes is a privilege. They are such fascinating apex predators, but also have an easy going demeanor when unprovoked (like most things). Summer rescues a big Python from netting! 🐍 This gorgeous Coastal Carpet Python unfortunately tried to squeeze through this plastic netting and got itself stuck. Summer was able to cut it out and will be taking it to the wildlife hospital as there is a bit of scale damage, but it should be totally fine! Once the snake heals, Summer will take it back to some safer bushland out in Lacey’s Creek where it came from!
