Having good and healthy lash retention does not mean never losing a lash. If you’re going weeks without losing any lashes, there’s a problem. If your extensions are stuck together or attached to multiple natural lashes at a time, they will not be able to shed naturally and healthily! ❌No adhesive can save this lash, or honestly, this entire lash line from bad retention. Here’s why: The bases of these lashes are coated in a layer of oil and dead skin that you can barely see with the naked eye. 😵 Like this client, some clients simply aren’t suitable for a “cleanse-only” prep… even if you double or triple cleanse. 🧼 When the lash line has this level of buildup, the bases never get fully clean, and retention takes the hit. 😔 If there’s buildup sitting between the natural lash and the extension, the adhesive isn’t bonding to the hair at all. It’s bonding to the buildup. And that buildup has zero strength. So the moment your client washes their face, rubs their eye, or brushes through their set… it pops right off. 🫤 It’s not the glue. It’s the surface you’re bonding to. 💧 Now, let’s talk about the controversial solution: Primer. 😳 The word on the street is that all primers are “bad,” and I’m here to clear that up: 📢Primers aren’t the problem, using the wrong primer choice is.📢 The wrong type can dry out the natural lash too much, giving you the same retention issues you’d see from applying extensions to a dirty base. 🌵 Strong primers aren’t meant for every client… but skipping primer completely isn’t the answer either. ⏩ Prep NEEDS to be personalized. ‼️ Some clients genuinely need a stronger, cuticle-opening option (like Bond-Aid) to break through oil and buildup. Others don’t need that intensity at all, and something more gentle (like using our Superbonder as a primer) gives a far better result for their lash health and retention. 🫶🏼 The real skill comes from knowing which prep each client needs and why. Unpopular Opinion 😬👇 * free tutorial below * If your sets don’t look clean and you are blaming it on your clients challenging natural lashes, I hate to say it but it’s YOU! Not your client. There is definitely room for improvement with your technique. Here’s the thing 👇 1. 👉 Yes, challenging natural lashes make our job DIFFICULT! But any lash line can look clean, you just have to focus on direction- this may mean you only connect .5mm of the extension to the natural lash but I swear to you, if properly placed, it WILL last great! 👍 2. Notice in this video how we let go of the lash once it looked properly directed but as soon as we let go, it shifted and bounced out of place- this happens often and we must instantly shift it back into place before the glue cures. When doing this, hold position until you see that the glue begins to turn from shiny to matte- this is a sign the glue is dried enough to stay in place. 3. Sometimes, in order to get a clean looking set, you are required to place some extensions on the top of the natural lash, some on the side and some beneath.. there is no rule of thumb here, you just have to envision how you want the lash to sit and figure out which placement will help achieve this best while creating the most points of contact you can between the natural lash and extension. A lash bath at the beginning of the service is a MUST in my book. It elevates the quality of the service and it also eliminates dirty lashes being the cause for poor retention. Lashes don’t stick to dirty lashes. If you see they’re dirty, wash them. Blaming the client for their bad retention just shows that you don’t know what you’re doing and are avoiding holding YOURSELF accountable for your lack of knowledge in retention.
