Human/Dog Reactive Leonberger This dog missed all its crucial socialising due to covid and has learnt to use his size to get dogs and people to go away. The first clip you see was how he reacts before we started training. For safety reasons because he redirects the muzzle is essential, the owners will never feel confident enough to walk the dog if the dog redirects on them. Good news for us is the dog is muzzle trained for when someone comes to the house but they need to start using it on walks. First thing with a dog like this is to get control. Once we have that the rest is easier to deal with. This is a stark reminder of how important proper socialising is, because Leonbergers are normally big gentle giants. In just one session, this dog went from the behaviour you see in the first clip to walking nicely and being able to walk past dogs and be close to humans. I don’t care about him interacting with strange people or strange dogs, but he does have to understand that the reactive behaviour won’t fly anymore and that starts with the owners being able to walk, control, influence and advocate #dogs #leonberger #dogtraining
