The Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci is not just famous for her smile but for her revolutionary 3-layer painting technique and dramatic theft story that turned her into a global icon 🎨✨ Painted on a poplar wood panel Leonardo first created a detailed base layer with gesso and underdrawing to map light and shadow then built the middle layer using his genius sfumato technique applying ultra-thin translucent oil glazes sometimes thinner than a human hair to blend tones so smoothly that no brushstrokes are visible and finally added multiple transparent glaze layers up to 20–30 micro-layers in some areas to create lifelike skin depth and the mysterious smile that appears to change depending on your angle 👀🔬 The dreamlike background with uneven horizons enhances the illusion, making her eyes seem to follow you in what experts call the “Mona Lisa effect.” But her worldwide fame exploded in 1911 when she was stolen from the Louvre Museum in Paris by Vincenzo Peruggia, who hid her for over two years before trying to return her to Italy, turning a Renaissance masterpiece into the biggest art crime sensation of the century 🕵️♂️😱 Today she stands protected behind bulletproof glass, attracting millions of visitors every year, proving that her genius lies not only in art and science but also in mystery and history. In 2017, Salvator Mundi shattered auction records when it sold at Christie’s New York for $450.3 million - the highest price ever paid for a painting. The work is attributed to Leonardo da Vinci and is believed to have been painted around 1500. It was rediscovered in 2005 after years of overpainting and restoration, and before its record sale, it had last traded hands in 1958 for just £45. The buyer was later reported to be Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, though its exact location has never been publicly confirmed. It was scheduled to be exhibited at the Louvre Abu Dhabi in 2018, but the display was abruptly postponed with no explanation. Since then, the painting has not been shown publicly - and its whereabouts remain unknown. #hosted #pubity #viral

#monalisa #Leonardodavinci

Leonardo Da Vinci‘s “The Last Supper” in Vienna? 🧐 At least, this is the most accurate replica in the world. Originally commissioned by Napoleon over 200 years ago for the Louvre Museum, it was made by the Roman mosaic artist Giacomo Raffaelli. After the fall of Napoleon #, Emperor Franz II/I purchased the artwork for the Belvedere, but due to its size it was then installed in the Minorite Church and inaugurated in 1847. Here you can see it in person - free admission. 🙌 #vienna #leonardodavinci #artwork #mosaic #art #artgram

The secret to Da Vinci’s smoky sfumato isn’t as complicated as it looks. I recreated this eye study after the Mona Lisa to see if I could achieve that iconic soft transition in just two layers. If you’ve ever struggled with streaky blends or losing definition in your shadows, here is the exact painting process I used: 1. Apply the base values using a pointed round brush. 2. Use a small mop head brush (or any old, fluffy brush) to softly blend the edges out. Tip: Wipe your blending brush constantly! Keeping the bristles clean is the only way to keep the sfumato effect from looking crisp and intentional rather than overworked. I also modernized the skin tones. Since the original Leonardo Da Vinci painting has yellowed over centuries due to varnish, I added a touch of blush to bring more life to this portrait study. Do you prefer the aged, golden look of historical paintings, or do you like seeing them reimagined with fresh colors? Let me know in the comments. #oilpainting #portraitpainting #arttutorial #sfumato #monalisa #paintingprocess

Leonardo da Vinci’s genius came from one habit: endless curiosity. He didn’t memorize facts — he questioned everything he saw. Why curiosity builds intelligence: • Questions activate deeper thinking • Observation sharpens the brain • Curiosity connects ideas creatively • Learning becomes natural, not forced The moment you stop asking “why,” your mind stops growing. Stay curious. That’s how genius is built. 🧠✨ Follow for more habits of history’s greatest minds 🔥

There was an attempt to destroy the #monalisa overnight 😢 Environmental protesters have thrown soup at the glass-protected Mona Lisa in France, calling for the right to “healthy and sustainable food”. The 16th Century painting by Leonardo da Vinci is one of the world’s most famous artworks, and is held at the Louvre in central Paris. The Louvre said the work was behind protective glass and was not damaged. Video shows two female protesters wearing T-shirts that read “food counterattack” throwing the liquid. Having been in this exact spot a few months ago, I am horrified to see this… Also: bag checks! Nobody detected flasks of soup - clearly, security would’ve understandably assumed this was water… #Repost @streetartglobe The Mona Lisa has just been vandalised by protestors at the Louvre Museum in Paris 😳😢 Via @rexachjose
