There is a time and place for one-word sentences and sentences that stretch a paragraph long. (Yes, I've seen it work.) But the length of your sentences depends on what you want to convey. Urgency = short Descriptive = long Emotional = short Thoughtful = long Your sentences should strengthen the meaning you're imbuing into them, and the longer a sentence is, the more time there is for its strength to fade.
