Thank you @linkedin for the exclusive early access to the report that you said my audience would find very insightful and the conversation with your “in-house career expert.” Here’s my take on the report and since I don’t get paid by you, I’ll be honest. I read the “report” it’s a one-page marketing tool dressed up as science to make you feel bad about yourself and take a LinkedIn course. That’s their aim it turns out… to make you feel bad. After I read the “report” they doubled down on their tone deaf and patronizing tone by giving me the “opportunity” to talk with their in house “career expert” to go over this it. I was a bit confused as the report was a lil over one page and not at all complicated, but sure I took the call cause I just had to hear what she was going to say. They connected us and conveniently not only is she the “career expert” whatever that means but her title is also, “Vice President of Communications” On our 20 mins phone call I asked her about the current landscape of the employer’s market and how that contributes to companies treating candidates poorly because no one is holding them accountable, what’s LinkedIn’s take on the pervasive problem of ghosting and what her advice in general would be to jobs seekers. Let me sum it up for you. “Ageism is anecdotal. Ghosting happens because candidates over apply.” And when I asked her what are her favorite tools on the platform, she said the people search feature where you can search “I am looking for someone who is curing cancer” So, LinkedIn believes their platform cures cancer, ageism is not real and it’s your fault if you get ghosted. There are some creators on this app who have drunk the LinkedIn Kool Aid but that’s because they are being paid by LinkedIn. I am not. #skillsontherise #linkedin #jobmarket

After 12+ years recruiting, I’ve noticed the people who get hired fastest usually do 5 things differently. They’re not always the most qualified. They’re often the most intentional. 1️⃣ They know exactly what they want Average candidate: “I’m open to a few things.” Fast-hired candidate: “I’m targeting senior marketing roles where I can lead growth strategy and scale demand gen.” Clarity creates momentum. 2️⃣ They connect the dots quickly Average candidate hopes employers figure it out. Fast-hired candidate makes it obvious: “My background in customer success + analytics translates well into product because I understand both user needs and data-driven decision making.” They make the leap easy. 3️⃣ They don’t rely only on cold applying Average candidate applies and waits. Fast-hired candidate: • activates referrals • reaches out directly • builds relationships before needing a job Momentum beats waiting. 4️⃣ They remove doubt in interviews They make it clear: • why them • why this role • how they’ll create value quickly They don’t leave interviewers guessing. 5️⃣ They remember interviews are human People are quietly asking: Would I want to work with this person every week? Connection matters more than most candidates realize. Most searches take longer because people blend in. The good news: this is learnable. 💡 Save this before your next interview or job search. Comment OFFER if you want help becoming the obvious choice.
