I want to raise my kids to have a whimsical childhood filled with nature and imagination 🫶 This is how we choose to do it and it’s okay if you do things differently. Every now and then, we turn our lounge into a family movie theatre and it’s the best thing ever but day-to-day we prioritise play. It might not be convenient but it feels worth it 🌱🍄🪿🖍️🌻

We feel so passionately about these words, originally from the Get Outside with Kids podcast 🌿 It’s why we do so much of what we do, and now at almost 2 we can see so many of the benefits of spending time outdoors in our own daughter. This isn’t supposed to be school-shaming, we know not everyone can access forest schools or home-school. We think there are so many great benefits to traditional school. We also don’t have a school-age child so we can’t speak from personal experience. But we do really believe it’s possible and also essential to fit outdoor time around school, work, and everyday commitments. Whether that’s a wander in the woods every morning or a hike in the fells at the weekend, during which time your little ones can be free to roam and explore 🪵 What do you think?

"But you skipped all the tears and tantrums!" Well, in all honesty there were a few sad moments from some falls in the dirt but overall our little 2 year old did great on her first daddy-daughter backpacking trip! ⛰️ I'm always amazed at how resilient kids are in the outdoors and there's something about being one on one that seems to raise the level of their emotional maturity a little. Sometimes the hardest part is just getting packed and to the location! That's just my experience though Also, I get the criticism that I was on my phone the whole time. It might look like that. But I came back from our 28 hour trip with just under an hour of footage (including a very long time lapse). Personally, I think it's possible to document your trip and still be present with your child. Think of your Dad at your birthday party with his camcorder in the 80's or 90's!
