A 56 y old male patient reported to the department of Prosthodontics Crown and Bridge with a chief complaint of completely edentulous maxillary and mandibular arch. On intraoral examination it was observed that maxillary ridge had a defect due to traumatic extraction of impacted canine. Hence to avoid further excessive stress on the ridge fabrication of liquid denture was considered. The principle of this design was that a liquid-supported denture is flexible and continuously adapts itself to the mucosa. However, it is also rigid enough to support the teeth during actual use.This design will act as a continuous reliner for the denture and thus has an advantage over the existing denture designs. When no forces are applied, the foil remains in the resting position, which acts as a soft liner and when the dentures are in use, vertically directed loads are distributed in all directions by the liquid resulting in optimal stress distribution. This helps in the long-term preservation of bone and soft tissues.. Apart from the combined benefits of tissue conditioners and soft liners, liquid-supported dentures will have optimal stress distribution during masticatory function. Load from biting forces and even bruxism, will be distributed over a larger surface. Thus, pressure spots and overloading of supporting tissues may be reduced.The steps for fabrication are as follows 1) All the steps are similar as that of conventional Cd till try in. 2) 2 biostar sheet are adapted on maxillary cast of 2mm thickness and 0.8 mm thickness 3) While packing with heat cure it is done with 2mm thickness biostar sheet and acrylized followed by removal of 2mm sheet and replacing it with 0.8mm sheet. 4) The remaining 1.2 mm of space is filled with liquid which gives the cushioning effect. #dentist#prostho #dentistry #art #doctor

When we talk about later excursions in complete dentures, we’re referring to the side-to-side mandibular movements that occur during function — especially chewing. These movements are critical to both comfort and long-term prosthetic stability. 1️⃣ Occlusal Balance & Stability In natural dentition, the periodontal ligament absorbs lateral forces. With complete dentures, there is no PDL — only mucosa and bone. During lateral movements: If occlusion is not properly balanced If contacts occur only on one side If working/non-working interferences exist 👉 The denture will tip, rock, or dislodge. That’s why we aim for bilateral balanced occlusion in complete denture therapy — maintaining simultaneous contact on both sides during excursion to counteract destabilizing forces.2️⃣ Preservation of Residual Ridge Uncontrolled lateral forces create: Concentrated pressure areas Accelerated ridge resorption Chronic sore spots Balanced lateral contacts distribute occlusal load more evenly, helping preserve residual ridge anatomy over time. 3️⃣ Patient Comfort & Neuromuscular Adaptation Patients chew in lateral patterns — not purely vertical motions. If lateral excursions are not harmonized: Patients feel instability They develop parafunctional compensation Muscle fatigue increases Confidence decreases A well-balanced denture improves: ✔ Chewing efficiency ✔ Speech adaptation ✔ Psychological confidence 4️⃣ Role of Tooth Selection & Setup Lateral excursion control depends heavily on: Cuspal inclination Compensating curves Occlusal plane orientation Tooth morphology Different philosophies manage lateral forces differently: Anatomic teeth → better for balanced articulation Monoplane occlusion → minimizes lateral interferences Lingualized occlusion → combines esthetics with controlled lateral contact Each case demands biomechanical judgment.
