I’m 23… and I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that: 1) I still have money anxiety, even with progress. I’ve built a 6-figure net worth, but my brain still thinks paycheck-to-paycheck. I’ll celebrate for 10 minutes, then stress about the next goal. I’m learning to build wealth without living in panic. 2) I’m obsessed with buying a home, and it scares me. It’s a family dream, but it’s also pressure. Sometimes I worry if I don’t move fast enough, I’ll disappoint my family now or sacrifice my future family later. 3) I overthink small purchases because of how I grew up. When you’re raised lower middle class, “just buy it” doesn’t exist. Even when I can afford something, I still do the mental math of being able to afford it 10x times before buying. I’m trying to spend with intention, not guilt. 4) I didn’t always feel like I fit in. In elementary, I wore whatever we could afford, and it hurt my confidence more than I admitted. That’s a big reason I became so focused on money and success. I’m still unlearning the “prove yourself” mindset. 5) I’ve never dated. Not because I didn’t want to. I just kept putting it off. “After school… after I’m stable… after the house…” and suddenly years passed. I’m realizing you can’t delay your whole life until it’s perfect. 6) I’m introverted. Posting feels unnatural, and I overthink before I hit “share.” Sometimes I want to delete it right after. I’m not over it yet. 7) I’m still figuring it out. You can build the career, money, and body, but you also need to build a life. I’m learning balance in real time. Why I’m saying this publicly: I’m not naturally someone who shares, but I do have a story. If being real helps even one person feel less alone with money, career, or pressure, it’s worth it. Here is the truth: Lower class rents a home because they can’t afford a downpayment, running costs & they don’t get a loan. Sometimes their rent is subsidised. Middle class is able to make a downpayment on their home and get approved for a loan. Upper class focuses on how money works. Instead tying up the money in a property, they rent & use money to make high yield investments. Wealth class has enough money that tying up money in a property doesn’t affect their liquidity. Owning a home is to preserve their wealth instead of trying to maximise returns. And most importantly homes are considered as legacy properties to pass down to future generations.
