The 2023 addition of Mandrill Mayhem at Chessington World of Adventures was a curious move by Merlin. The park clearly needed a new headline coaster, something that could offer family thrills to its audience with good capacity for those busy summer days. What it got from B&M was an intense, slightly rattly, terrain hugging shuttle multi-launcher featuring exposed wing seats. Unique, nicely themed and fun for sure, but not at all meeting the brief in my eyes! Fast forward 2 years and I think the jury’s still out on Mandrill Mayhem. I developed a soft spot for the ride during my visit, largely due to its quirkiness and pleasant surroundings. However, I often see and hear negativity towards the ride. I think the jump in courage required to go from the moderately challenging Dragon’s Fury/Vampire to MM is just too much. Maybe the new Minecraft coaster will help bridge the gap? What do you think? I think that Mandrill Mayhem is a pretty solid ride at Chessington- I just wish the throughput was faster. Obviously it’s impossible with the track layout- but a guy can dream!

Has he hit Wickerman? The boy is desperate! Reuben is still not at the Wickerman height of 1.2, however he now is only 1cm away, I think the summer holidays will be his time. Reu cannot wait to hit the bigger coasters and 1.2 opens up so many rollercoasters for him, tbh I think I'm just as excited for it as he is.
