Proud to be Māori. This moko kauae is more than what you see… it’s generations, resilience, and identity etched into my skin. I don’t expect everyone to understand it… but respect on my page is not optional. For a long time, I let the opinions of others shape how I showed up. As my posts reached further and the comments increased—both good and bad—my nervous system hit its limit. So I withdrew. I became a shell of myself… scared to post, scared to speak, scared to be seen. But through deep release, healing, and rewiring, especially through breathwork… I found my way back to a simple truth: I am enough. I am whole. I am perfect just as I am. Like the harakeke (flax bush), this rug’s lighter greens represent the newer reanga (generations), and the darker ones represent the generation which’ve come before - all of which build on legacy of the last. While I typically use koru or kōiri patterns, seeing them in these more realistic greens breathes new life into their āhua and what they stand for as Māori motif.
