Wale Wale Wale I figured out how to project your 3D art on a cube so you can make it look 3D from a specific angle! For that you need to measure your box and then build your box in 3D. Next you correct the UVs and build your 3D artwork, adjust the angle like you’d look at your cube in real life. Then you export it and open touch designer to connect your surface model to your projector. This is necessary to set up all the corners to make your art sit right on the cube. This process is called mapping. Finally, finding the right position to look at your 3D art cube is important because from other positions it might look off. I used blender 3D and touch designer, which are both free to use. You can use any projector for this too. There are small ones for under 100€ available online to try out some stuff. Side note; this is not a tutorial because if it was, it’d be 30 minutes long. I was thinking about making a detailed one about it documenting my process. This reel is just to give you an idea of the working stages you go through while making your projection come to live. If I googled how to do this, I wouldn’t even know where to start. So now at least you roughly know the steps and programs to use. This is also for my own memory to remember how to craft this. Stay creative! Earlier this year I had the chance to contribute VFX to the grand finale of @julienbam’s Der Mann im Mond (Songs aus der Bohne) series. One of the biggest challenges in this sequence was that no additional live-action footage could be shot at the original location due to seasonal changes. My task was therefore to recreate the entire environment as faithfully as possible in 3D.
