Inside bone marrow where red blood cells are born and prepared Red blood cells are produced inside the bone marrow through a process called erythropoiesis. The marrow contains stem cells that can develop into different blood cells. When the body needs more oxygen carrying cells, some stem cells commit to becoming red blood cells and begin maturing step by step. As they develop, these cells produce large amounts of hemoglobin, the protein that binds oxygen. At the same time, they shrink and eventually lose their nucleus. This loss creates more space for hemoglobin and makes the cells flexible enough to travel through tiny blood vessels. The final immature form, called a reticulocyte, is released into the bloodstream and finishes maturing within one to two days. Mature red blood cells then circulate for about 120 days before being removed by the spleen and replaced by newly formed cells from the bone marrow.

I bought marrow very at the start of my 2nd year of MBBS Here is what I regret: 1. Kept pushing videos into backlog thinking I’ll cover later (spoiler: never did 😭) The topics I’ve watched videos for, were easier for me to recall when I was preparing for university. Certain topics I didn’t watch videos for, I had a difficult time dealing with. 2. Watched at 1.5x without understanding → had to rewatch = double time wasted. I have watched some videos just for the sake of completing them & I can confirm- not watching videos is better than just passively watching. 3. Solved QBank at the end instead of alongside → missed active recall. I’ve kinda felt lazy to solve QBanks right after the lecture and thought it’ll be easier at the end! But No. It doesn’t work that way. 4. Focused only on watching videos, forgot the importance of revision. A reading of the notes is important right after watching lecs. That helps retain. 5. Relied only on marrow notes for certain topics. Textbooks can’t be replaced by anything & must be read since we have the whole year to study! That’s how I do it ⬇️ 1) Pick a subject (eg: Pediatrics) 2) Count the total no. Of hours for the video lectures (in marrow total duration of pedia lectures is around 45 hrs ) 3) Divide it according to how many hours you can study in a day (for eg I can study it for 2 hrs..so 45/2= 22.5 days ~ 23days) 4) Set target of completing it in 23 days 5) Watch the videos and most important thing is to revise them (I use marrow because the concept building is really nice) 6) Solve MCQs after completing a system (Marrow editon 8 qbank is the Gold standard for exams like NEET PG and FMGE) 7) Go through Marrow pearls and add points in your notes if they are important in your notes if they are important (explanation of the questions have the pearls mentioned) A few points about edition 8 notes : - Includes high-quality images, original illustrations, tables & flowcharts which makes things easier Active Spaces to add your own points.
