Welcome to the High School Playbook 📘 Breaking down what guidance counsellors don’t always have time to explain. Do Grade 9 courses decide your university acceptance? Short answer: No. Canadian universities do not look at Grade 9 marks. In Ontario, unlike in the past, there’s no longer “applied” or “academic” in Grade 9. Instead, you’ll take de-streamed courses that end in “W.” In Grade 10, courses become streamed again, as students begin choosing pathways that lead to university (U) or college (C) level courses in Grade 11. So if you’re going into Grade 9, don’t stress too much as these marks won’t make or break your post-secondary acceptance.
