Try This Quick Mental Math Trick Multiply any number by 5 Step 1 Think of any number. Step 2 Divide the number by 2. Step 3 • If the answer is a whole number, add a zero to the end. • If the answer ends in .5, move the decimal one place to the right. This gives us the second part of our answer: 16 96²=9216 🤯 e.g. 105² ✨How far is it from 100? It’s 5 MORE ✨We do 105+5. This gives us the first part of our answer: 110 ✨We do 5². Here’s a multiplication trick that feels illegal but isn’t. Let’s multiply 53 by 11. Most people stack it and start carrying numbers. We’re not doing that. Step 1: Take the two digits, 5 and 3. Step 2: Add them together. 5 plus 3 equals 8. Step 3: Slip that 8 right in between the 5 and the 3. Boom. 583. That’s it. Let’s try another one. 72 times 11. 7 plus 2 equals 9. Slide the 9 into the middle. 792. Now here’s where it gets spicy. What about 68 times 11? 6 plus 8 equals 14. You can’t squeeze 14 into one slot. So you put the 4 in the middle… and carry the 1 to the 6. So now it becomes 748. No long multiplication. No sweat. Try this with a few numbers and watch people’s eyebrows lift.
