She, Nicci Gilbert and Monica “Mimi” Doby formed the group in Los Angeles and quickly signed to Michael Jackson’s MJJ/Epic imprint. Brownstone’s platinum debut From the Bottom Up and its Grammy-nominated hit “If You Love Me” made them a standout act in the golden era of R&B. After Brownstone’s run, Maxee pursued solo work and released music in the early 2000s. Beloved for her rich vocals and soulful presence, she died in 2015 at age 46 following a tragic accident. I have known @maxwell for close to 30 years. Our friendship started on the 26th Floor of the Sony building in NYC on Madison Avenue in 1995. It was the year before the release of Urban Hang Suite in the spring of 1996. My friend Miguel Baguer was his brilliant publicist. We were a group of immigrants. Grenada. Cuba. Haiti. Puerto Rico. Dreaming big!! And Max was a genius performer, singer/songwriter. The music, his voice, his genius performance skills were all on display last night in LA on the final night of his Serenade Tour. And his beautiful heart, the one I have known for all those years, has not changed. Thank you for an amazing show. And thank you for being you. Thank you for being there for me over all these years. I wasn’t going to be anywhere else but @thekiaforum last night. Some other favorites graced the gallery and I had to admire. And Miss @jazminesullivan is the TRUTH!!
