We know it wasn’t Meaths day yesterday in Croke park but what I also know is now finally after all my 19 years as a Kerry woman living in Meath it feels different, it feels like football is back and thank god for that! Rearing 4 boys who would always up to this year would have been die hard Kerry football fans it is fabulous to see them follow their own county of Meath, know all the players , want to get Meath jerseys instead of Kerry ( although we’ll have a few chats on that!) and have a buzz around Meath football. Even though yesterday was a bit of a disaster result wise what this new young team did give is hope and inspiration for the future. My boys got to see yesterday the buzz of the Croke park days, the excitement of all the massive numbers of Meath fans that travelled and we’ve had a good few days out this Summer following Meath football. Just like it was for me when I was younger with the great Kerry teams and for my husband his younger days of following the great Meath teams. GAA is part of who we are in our house, we were both reared on it, we are now rearing our boys the same. So although Meath are out we need to thank them for giving us some glory days this Summer, for giving hope back to the county and on a personal note a fabulous side effect of having my 4 boys out the back garden into the late night kicking ball playing 2v2 all day everyday this Summer imagining in the hope they too will have their glory days in Croke Park when they are older.
