tips for ✨med school interview prep✨ from someone who had 7 interviews! • Mock interviews are ideal (I all of mine virtually though 1) my undergrad institution’s premed committee and 2) two physicians). If you don’t have access to these resources, I recommend visiting the Med School Insider &/or the Shemassian Academic Consulting websites and looking up their lists of common med school interview prompts, and giving them to a friend/family member, having them randomly choose a few questions at a time to ask you. I just recommend having some practice in front of another human being. You will be more nervous, so you can better stimulate a real-life environment this way, even if your mock interviewer isn’t in the medicine space. The med school insider & Shemassian academic consulting YouTube channels have great examples of what make weak vs strong interview responses! • solo practice - when you get some of the nervous jitters out of the way by doing a few mocks, do as much independent practice as you (reasonably) can. You want your responses to roll off your tongue. I would record myself answering prompts on my work commutes, then listen to them later to analyze my response lengths, talking speed, nervous tics, etc. • take notes! I kept a journal so that I had a running list of feedback I received from my mock interviews. I also took some light notes on good tips I found from online resources. • consistency is key - a few hours of practice every week is what helped me improve my skills in the month before my first interview #premed #premedadvice #premedstudent #medschool #medschoolinterview #medschoolinterviews #medschoolinterviewprep #medstudent #blackmedstudent #medschoolgirl

Save this one for the upcoming interview season!! 🤩

Save this one for the upcoming interview season!! 🤩 This is my best medical school interview advice that landed me 6 medical school acceptances! 1) have an answer to the question “tell me about yourself”, but the trick is to not make it sound too rehearsed. Bring up the unique things about you; I always touched on my childhood upbringing, sports & college, my hobbies, and my current activities in some regard but I never said the same thing twice so it sounded genuine and natural 2) be able to answer “why this school?”. I always spent time researching the schools website, SDN, Reddit etc. taking notes on the things I loved about that school and any questions I had that came up during my research. Does the school have something specific that is exciting to you? Write that down and mention it in your interview if an opportunity comes up. It shows the interviewer that you know about the school and that you’re invested in potentially going there. 3) if you’re interviewing at DO schools, definitely be able to explain “why DO vs MD/PA/RN” etc. that is a tricky one and if you want some advice on how I tackled that question I can make a post about it! 4) following up #3, have an answer for why you want to be a doctor instead of a PA, RN, NP, etc! This is a super common question and a lot of people flounder on this 🥲 5) most importantly, be yourself! If you’re trying too hard to come across a certain way that isn’t natural to you, it will be obvious. The one caveat to that is I was always given the advice to smile more than you think you should. Because you will likely be nervous, it can show up on your face in unexpected ways, so combat that with a welcoming and friendly smile but let your personality shine through! ✨ Let me know what other questions you guys have about interview season, I hope these pearls of advice help, good luck! 🩺⚕️🧑🏻‍⚕️ . . #meded #medstudentlife #premedmentor #mcat #premed #premedmotivation #premedadvice #studymotivation #futuredoctor #medicalschool #interviewtips

The advice I wish I got as a pre-med student… 1. If someone tries to tell you that you shouldn’t apply to med school, tell them to eff off. 👉🏼I had to put this at the top of the list. Don’t let a sad, lonely pre-med advisor tell you that you can’t chase your dream. 2. Nobody cares about your GPA as much as you do. 👉🏼If you’re spending more time calculating what you’ll get with a B+ than actually studying, you’re wasting energy. Do well, but stop obsessing. 3. You are not special. Yet. 👉🏼You might’ve been top of your class in undergrad, but medicine is full of people like you. Get used to being average and work from there. 4. If you don’t love delayed gratification, this path will wreck you. 👉🏼Years of debt, long hours, no sleep, no social life… and you’re still not “done.” If you want fast success, choose literally any other field. 6. Being smart isn’t enough. 👉🏼You need to be consistent. Organized. Emotionally intelligent. A good teammate. A fast learner. And still keep showing up when you’re tired. 7. Shadowing doesn’t show you what medicine is really like. 👉🏼It’s a highlight reel. If you’re basing your decision off watching a few surgeries and writing it in your personal statement, you’re in for a rude awakening. 8. Some of you are doing this for the wrong reasons. 👉🏼If you’re here for the title, the money, or your parents’ approval… those things won’t be enough to carry you through a 28-hour call. 9. Start building habits now. 👉🏼If you procrastinate, burn out easily, or suck at time management… med school and residency will expose all of that. Fix it now while you still have time. 10. This path will take everything from you… and give you back purpose, resilience, and a version of yourself you never imagined possible. 👉🏼It’s not easy, but it is worth it. You’re not just chasing a degree. You’re becoming someone who changes lives. Already in healthcare? Drop the advice you wish you got sooner 👇🏼 #premed #futuredoctor #medstudent #premedmotivation #studytips #learnontiktok #motivation #medicalstudent #medicalschool #fyp

Newest installment my med school interview prep series: “Why physician, not NP/PA?” This is my favorite question to ask because it allows the applicant to show that they understand key differences between different healthcare career and experiences that they have taken to prove to themselves that being a doctor is the right choice for them. Things to keep in mind when planning your response: -Do NOT put down or speak negatively about any healthcare careers -You may wish to highlight differences in the legal autonomy, job responsibilities, and philosophy of medicine in comparison to nursing, PA, etc. How do attributes traditionally specific to medicine, such as leading a healthcare team, having full autonomy over patient care, and having a strong background with years of training in basic and clinical sciences fit into your strengths and goals? -If you have experience working with or shadowing another healthcare professional this could be a great time to bring that up! This can show that you’ve taken the time to learn about other fields before choosing medicine, which is a good thing! Best wishes to all the amazing applicants this cycle! #premed #premedstudent #premedgoals #mcat #futuredoctor #futuremd #medicine #meded #medicalschool

Save for later🚨 Before I got in, I had this dramatic idea of what med school would be like. Some of it was true. A lot of it wasn’t. Here are five myths I genuinely believed. 1. You have to be a genius to survive. I thought everyone would be operating on a completely different intellectual level. In reality, most people here are just consistent and disciplined. Systems and resilience matter more than raw intelligence. 2. You won’t have a life. I assumed it would be four years of isolation. It’s busy, yes, but people still work out, travel, build projects, see friends, and spend time with family. You just become more intentional with your time. 3. Everyone is hyper-competitive. I expected constant comparison and silent competition. What I found instead was collaboration. Shared notes. Group studying. Upper years who genuinely want you to succeed. 4. You have to become a robotic version of yourself. I thought I had to tone down my personality to fit into medicine. The truth is, authenticity is respected. The best classmates and future doctors are the ones who stay human. 5. You have to wake up at 5 am every single day. I genuinely believed med school meant permanent exhaustion and brutal mornings. Some days are early, yes. But a lot of learning is self-directed. You find a rhythm that works for you. Med school is challenging, but it is not the exaggerated version people make it out to be. And that’s honestly one of the reasons we started MedBoys. We want to show the real, unfiltered side of this journey and remind you that if three normal high school friends could make it here, it’s possible for you too.
