A bucket list place you HAVE to experience🤯 This is Meteora in Kalambaka, Greece🇬🇷 which has 6 active monasteries perched on towering rock pillars. After flying halfway across the world, we took a 4-hour train north from Athens to see it for ourselves and it was 100% worth it🙌 The cliffs rise straight out of the earth, and somehow, monasteries sit right on top of them. While some of them look like castles, they’re active monasteries built by monks in the 14th century seeking isolation and spiritual refuge. We stayed two nights in Kalambaka so we could catch multiple sunset and sunrise. I rented a moped in the town and drove up multiple times a day to see the view with different conditions. This was easily one of my favorite places to explore in Greece😌 If you’re planning to visit, late spring or early fall is best for fewer crowds and cooler temps. Meteora Monasteries 🇬🇷 A place where nature and faith come together in the most surreal way. The massive rock formations you see here were shaped over 25 million years ago, but it wasn’t until the 11th century that monks began climbing them in search of isolation and spiritual connection. At one point, there were 24 monasteries built on these cliffs — today, only six remain active. Back then, the only way up was through ropes, ladders, and nets… no roads, no easy access. Meteora — where the rocks float among the clouds, and the silence is older than any civilization 🧡 ⠀ What’s there: ⠀ 🏛️ 6 active monasteries (there used to be 24). The largest and oldest is the Great Meteoron, founded in the 14th century. The most photogenic is Holy Trinity — the one that seems to «float» on its own rock. ⠀ 🪢 How they used to climb — by rope and in nets. The monks would say, «God will protect us if He wills.» Sometimes ropes were only replaced after they broke. Scary? Yes. Beautiful? Incredibly. ⠀ 📍 Where it is: in central Greece, near the town of Kalambaka. 3 hours from Thessaloniki, 4.5 hours from Athens. ⠀ 🎬 Interesting fact — a scene from the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only (1981) was filmed here — the heroine climbed the rock right here in Meteora 💛 ⠀ Это место не выглядит настоящим. Il 1 febbraio, alle 21 ore locali giapponesi, ripresa da una camera che punta il Monte Fuji, una meteora è esplosa alle spalle dell'imponente montagna. L'impatto è avvenuto a oltre 20 km al secondo e le dimensioni dell'oggetto erano probabilmente di poche decine di cm. #IlMessaggero #montefuji #giappone #meteora

Immagina di tornare la sera a casa e vedere questo nel cielo! È stata probabilmente una delle meteore più memorabili degli ultimi anni! Visibile in Germania, Paesi Bassi, Francia e Lussemburgo.
